Green Flag Award

Caldicotes first registered for the Eco-School initiative in October 2007. Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a simple framework to help make sustainability an integral part of school life. Eco-Schools can help enhance the curriculum and get the whole school united behind something important. Their mission is to help make every school in the country sustainable and to bring about behaviour change in young people and those connected to them so that good habits learned in schools are followed through into homes and communities. What’s more, by addressing environmental issues in school and reducing waste, you can save money, which can be reinvested elsewhere.

Bronze Award

We achieved our Bronze Award in March 2008.
Before we could be awarded this we had to complete 5 different tasks.
These were:
  • Form an Eco-Committee
  • Complete an Environmental Review
  • Create an Action Plan
  • Involve the Whole School and Wider Community
  • Link Sustainability to the Curriculum

Silver Award

We achieved our Silver Award in March 2008 - that's right;
because we had excelled ourselves in the Bronze Award category we actually achieved our Silver at the same time!
We did this by going over and above in the 5 Bronze areas and completing 2 additional areas.
Which were:
  • Develop an Eco-Code
  • Monitor and Evaluate all Eco work completed

Green Flag Award

We first achieved our Green Flag Award in July 2009. Since then we have worked hard to continue and grow our Eco-Schools topics within school.

We renewed our Green Flag Award in October 2011 for a further two years and are currently processing our application for a third renewal! If we are successful it would mean that we would have successfully held our Green Flag Award for six years!

We were the first school in the whole of Middlesbrough to achieve Green Flag Award and to this date only another 5 primary schools have managed to succeed in achieving one.

We recently worked with Thorntree Park to achieve their first Green Flag Award and often share our good practice with neighboring primary schools. Ensuring sustainability for our children's future in any way we can is part of our core values at Caldicotes, this shows in all aspects of the curriculum.
