Happy Birthday to the Queen from Nursery

posted 24 Apr 2015, 08:37 by Tom Kentfield-Wells   [ updated 24 Apr 2015, 08:37 ]
This week in Nursery we have been learning to create a simple representation of ourselves, we have been learning to count objects and represent numbers and we have been listening and talking about stories we have read.

As it was the Queen’s 89th birthday this week, we have been learning lots of interesting facts about her and the Royal family. We learnt that she has a home in London called Buckingham Palace and we sang Happy Birthday to her. We really enjoyed making her birthday cards and decorating sparkly crowns with jewels. At story time we read a story called ‘Paddington at the Palace.’ We really enjoyed this story and we look forward to reading the next Paddington story ‘Paddington at the Tower of London.’ Next week we will continue to learn more about the Royal family and famous landmarks in London. We look forward to holding a ‘Royal Garden Party’ in Nursery and we are inviting our families to join us eat jam sandwiches and cakes!

Did you know that the Queen has two birthdays and she has been the Queen for 63 years?

In phonics, Miss Pounder’s group have been listening carefully to initial phonemes in words and we have been developing our oral blending and segmenting skills. This week we have been practising writing the graphemes w, x, y. We learnt the tricky word ‘be’ this week.

Mrs Edgar’s group have also been listening carefully to initial letter sounds in words and developing their oral blending and segmenting skills. We really enjoyed identifying words with the same phoneme and placing words in the sound bin.

Mrs Dean’s phonics group have been developing their understanding of oral blending and segmenting. We have been listening carefully to phonemes in words and developing our awareness of the different phonemes that make up words. We really enjoyed using sound talk to speak to Emerald and playing eye spy.

It has been a very busy week in Nursery and we have been making our best better to be the best that we can be!

Keep checking Nursery’s webpage and the academy’s Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to! Next week our letter of the week will be ‘y’ and our number of the week will be 7.
