The Three Little Pigs

This week in Nursery we have been focusing on giving meaning to marks that we make, counting and our ability to work together as a team.

We read a story called ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and we have had lots of fun orally retelling the story using story puppets and character masks.

We learnt a new song all about The Three Little Pigs. Follow this link to hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWjUSHimgAA

We have been continuing to develop our writing skills in the areas this week by drawing pictures of models we have made, writing labels, copying our names and writing graphemes. At every opportunity we have been developing our ability to give meaning to the marks that we make, develop our pencil control, recognise graphemes and identify initial letter sounds in words. We certainly have been the best that we can be by putting our work in the ‘Superstar Writing Tray!’ Some of us even got a special prize for the work we completed because Emerald was very impressed with us!

In numeracy we have been developing our counting skills and number recognition. We have been working hard to count objects and match quantity to numerals.

Throughout the week we have been developing our social skills and our ability to work together as a team to complete a task. We had lots of fun working together to build a house for the three little pigs.

In phonics, Miss Pounder’s group have been listening carefully to initial phonemes in words and we have been developing our oral blending and segmenting skills. This week we have been focusing on the graphemes j, w and v.

Mrs Edgar and Mrs Dean’s phonics groups have been developing their awareness of rhythm and rhyme. We have been learning to identify words that rhyme through songs, rhyming stories and games. We particularly enjoyed the game ‘Rhyming Soup.’

It has been a very busy week in Nursery!

Keep checking Nursery’s webpage and the academy's Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to! And remember…………..beware of the big bad wolf!

Next week our new letter of the week is ‘b.’ Can you think of anything that begins with this grapheme?
