It's all about the beans, this week in Nursery!

This week in Nursery we have been focusing on giving meaning to marks as we draw, write and paint, developing our understanding of what plants need to grow, understanding simple concepts and using language of size.

In literacy we read a story called ‘Jack and the Beanstalk,’ a traditional tale about a boy named Jack who planted some magic beans! This gave us a great idea! We decided to plant our very own magic beans.

We had lots of fun planting seeds and developing our understanding of what plants need to grow. We hope that like Jack’s magic beans, ours will grow into a huge beanstalk too. We will keep you updated on their progress!

We have been continuing to develop our writing skills in the areas this week by drawing wanted posters to catch the giant, writing labels, copying our names and writing graphemes. At every opportunity we have been developing our ability to give meaning to the marks that we make when we draw, write and paint.

In numeracy we have been developing our understanding of simple concepts and our ability to use language of size. We had lots of fun measuring Emerald and measuring each other.

In phonics, Miss Pounder’s group have been listening carefully to initial phonemes in words and we have been developing our oral blending and segmenting skills. This week we have been practising writing the graphemes, m, d, g and the letters in our name. We learnt the tricky word ‘I’ this week.

Mrs Edgar’s group have also been listening carefully to initial letter sounds in words and developing their oral blending and segmenting skills. We helped Emerald to identify phonemes in words by using sound talk.

Mrs Dean’s phonics group have been developing their awareness of sounds within the environment. We particularly enjoyed going on a listening walk and exploring what was inside Mrs Brown’s box.

We had some special visitors in school this week! We met the fire brigade and we got to go in a fire engine!

It has been a very busy week in Nursery and we have been making our best better to be the best that we can be!

Keep checking Nursery’s webpage and the academy's Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to!

Next week we are focusing on the digraph ‘ss.’ Can you think of any words that have this digraph in them?
