Week 12 in Nursery

posted 27 Nov 2014, 05:33 by Tom Kentfield-Wells   [ updated 27 Nov 2014, 05:33 ]
This week in Nursery we have continued to develop our understanding of day and night. We have had lots of fun in the role play area, playing in our very own rocket!

In literacy we read a story called ‘How to Catch a Star.’ From reading this story we thought about what the little boy in the story would pack in his lunchbox for his exciting adventure to catch a star. We listened carefully to the initial phonemes in the names of food and we attempted to write our own names on our work. During story time we have listened to a range of stories based on the theme of day and night such as Owl babies, Don’t be scared little bear and Daddy on the Moon.

In maths we have been looking at 2D shapes and talking about their properties. We used a range of shapes to make a rocket, linked to the story that we have been reading in literacy.

In phonics Miss Pounder’s group have been listening carefully to initial phonemes in words and they have been developing their oral blending and segmenting skills. This week the children have been focusing on the letters; m, d and g.

Mrs Edgar’s and Mrs Dean’s phonics group have been developing their understanding of alliteration and they have been listening carefully to initial letter sounds in words, developing their awareness of how different sounds are articulated.

We received a special letter in Nursery this week from the little boy in the story ‘How to Catch a Star.’ He asked if we could make him a rocket that he could use on his mission to catch a star. We used a range of materials such as; cardboard tubes, shiny foil, glue and cardboard. We had lots of fun making our rockets and we talked about the different shapes that we used.

Next week we look forward to starting our new topic all about CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!
