Week 7 in Nursery

posted 17 Oct 2014, 05:30 by Tom Kentfield-Wells   [ updated 17 Oct 2014, 05:30 ]
This week in Nursery the children have been introduced to the theme of harvest.

In the investigation area we have been digging up vegetables that are ripe and ready for harvest!

In Literacy we read a book called Oliver’s vegetables. This got us thinking about how vegetables grow and we talked about our favourite fruit and vegetables.

In maths we have been exploring the weight of fruit and vegetables. We have been ordering fruit and vegetables by weight and we used scales to compare which were the heaviest and which were the lightest.

In phonics we have been listening carefully to phonemes at the beginning of words. We have been exploring how different sounds are articulated and we have been helping Emerald to segment and blend words by thinking carefully about all of the phonemes in words. This week’s letter of the week in nursery is ‘n.’

In our topic session we have been thinking about how fruit and vegetables grow.

We placed vegetables that grow under the ground, in the soil, in our growing garden and we placed fruits that grow on trees on our fruit tree.

We have had lots of fun this week learning about harvest and we are thankful for the foods that we eat! Keep checking Nursery’s webpage to find out what we have been getting up to! Next week we look forward to celebrating our Harvest festival at the church and we are very excited for our Halloween party on Wednesday!
