Week 9 in Nursery

posted 7 Nov 2014, 06:59 by Tom Kentfield-Wells   [ updated 7 Nov 2014, 06:59 ]
This week in Nursery we have been learning about why we celebrate bonfire night and we have been thinking about how we can keep ourselves safe. We listened to the story of the Gunpowder Plot and we talked about different ways we celebrate this special event.

We had lots of fun in the role play area this week pretending to be fireman, linked to the theme of fire safety and keeping ourselves safe.

In maths we have been developing our counting skills and we have been helping Emerald to count objects. We investigated what happened when an object was removed or added to a group of objects, thinking about whether we had more or less objects. This week’s number of the week in Nursery is 8.

In phonics Miss Pounder’s group have been developing their oral blending and segmenting skills. They have been listening carefully to phonemes in words and remembering them in the order in which they occur.

Mrs Edgar’s and Mrs Dean’s phonics group have been experimenting with musical instruments to develop their listening skills and awareness of sounds. They have been learning to talk about sounds that instruments make, thinking about tone and pitch. This week’s letter of the week in Nursery is ‘d’.

In our topic work we made firework pictures using paint and glitter. We blew the paint using a straw to create an exploding effect. Look at our work of art!!!!!!

We also had lots of fun making chocolate sparklers! There were delicious!

Keep checking Nursery’s webpage to find out what we have been getting up to!
