Week 5 in Reception

This week in maths we have been learning how to count on to make 10. There are lots of different ways to make 10 in a number sentence. Some of us also counted on to make the next 10. Evie-Mae calculated that 98 + 2 = 100! We also looked at tally charts and bar graphs.

In phonics this week we have been working within phases 3, 4 and 5. We are writing sentences using the different phonemes that can be read by ourselves and others. We have also used this knowledge in our writing about butterflies. We wrote a fascinating fact and some of us even used a ‘wow’ word in our sentence.

The nurse came to visit us on Tuesday to talk to us about hygiene. We put some special cream on our hands and when we placed our hands under a light we could see all of the tiny germs. It is important that we wash our hands properly and we have learned a song to help us to wash them.

This week was so exciting because our butterflies hatched. They emerged from their chrysalises on Monday and Tuesday and they were beautiful! On Wednesday we decided that it was a good idea to set them free so we released them into the nursery garden. Some of them did not want to go and they landed on our jumpers.
