Autumn and Remembrance Day

posted 16 Nov 2015, 06:09 by Vicki Bowes
Happy learning everybody! This week in Nursery we have been learning to develop our speaking and listening skills and we have been trying hard to talk about our environment.

We really enjoyed going outside to look for signs of autumn. We talked about what we could see and we recorded our findings using ipads.

Linked to our story focus this week, we enjoyed looking for the Leaf Man and thinking about where he could be hiding.

We also enjoyed using the computer program 2Simple to draw pictures of the autumnal changes that we observed outside.

We thought very carefully about the colours that we used!

During this special week of remembrance, we took part in a 2 minutes silence with the rest of the academy and we talked about why we wear poppies.

Some of us painted poppies, some of us drew our own poppies and some of us made our own poppies using different media.

Here is a picture of the whole academy taking part in a 2 minute silence. Can you spot us? We are the little people at the front!

On Thursday we had some special visitors come all of the way from France to meet us. We listened to a French story and we joined in with a French song. It was sooo much fun!

In phonics, Mrs Edgar and Mrs Dean’s group have been developing their awareness of sounds made with instruments and noise makers. We really enjoyed using musical instruments to make loud and quiet noises. Miss Pounder’s children have been listening carefully to initial letter sounds in words and developing their segmenting and blending skills. We really enjoyed making silly soup and playing eye spy.

As always we have enjoyed consolidating our learning in our outdoor environment, even if it was a little wet and windy!

We certainly did experience the autumnal weather!

It has been a busy week in nursery this week and we certainly have been making our best better to be the best that we can be!

Keep checking nursery’s webpage and the schools Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to! Next week our letter of the week is ‘o’ and our number of the week is 10. Can you think of a word that begins with this phoneme? Can you count up to the number 10? What number comes before number 10? What number comes after number 10?
