Week 18 in Nursery

posted 2 Feb 2016, 06:42 by Vicki Bowes

This week Nursery have been focusing on the following aspects of learning; Writing, Understanding, Space, Shape and Measure and Characteristics of Effective Learning.

Our story focus this week has been Sleeping Beauty. We learnt a new rhyme all about the sleeping princess which helped us to recall the main events of this story. Click on the link below to listen to this rhyme.

Linked to our story focus, we have enjoyed dressing up as princesses, making crowns and magic fairy wands and using story puppets to retell the story.

Throughout the week we have been trying hard to develop our mark making skills using different media.

We enjoyed making wanted posters to help find the wicked fairy that cast a spell on Sleeping Beauty.

In ICT we enjoyed using the computer program 2Simple to draw pictures of characters from the story of Sleeping Beauty, developing our mouse control skills.

In maths we have been developing our understanding of prepositions and we have been trying hard to use positional language to describe the position of objects and our relative position.

Where is Sapphire hiding?

In our outdoor environment and through our play, we have been developing our skills and consolidating our learning.

We have been trying hard to become independent learners by selecting our own activities and learning to become aware of our own goals by making plans and reviewing our progress and successes.

The dentist visited our Academy this week. He had heard all about how we keep our teeth healthy by brushing them regularly in nursery. He was super impressed with our shiny, sparkly teeth. He put some special princess and superhero toothpaste (fluoride) on them to protect them and keep them strong.

As you can see, it has been a very busy week in nursery and we have been making our best better to be the best that we can be!

Keep checking nursery’s webpage and the school’s Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to!
Next week we will be focusing on the grapheme f and our number of the week will be 19. Can you think of a word that begins with this grapheme? Can you count up to the number 19? What number is one less than 19? What number is one more than 19?
