Week 1 in Nursery

posted 21 Sep 2015, 06:23 by Vicki Bowes
Welcome back everyone! We hope that you have had a lovely summer break! As we start a new term and for some of us, embark on the start of our school life, we look forward to our learning journey together and making our best even better!

This week in nursery the children have been exploring our classroom areas and familiarising themselves with the new routines and rules of the setting.

In everything that we do, our key focus has been speech and language development, ensuring that we speak in sentences to express our ideas.

In phonics we have been developing our listening skills and awareness of sounds in our environment. We really enjoyed playing listening games such finding Emerald lost in Nursery and what’s inside Miss Pounder’s box?

We enjoyed exploring sound and using beaters to make sounds on different surfaces.

We have been working hard on our counting skills, developing our ability to count objects accurately and identify numbers.

We really enjoyed looking at ourselves in the mirror and taking about what we saw.

From looking in the mirror, we drew a self-portrait of ourselves, ensuring that we held our pencil accurately using the correct tri-pod grip.

Giving meaning to marks that we make.

Shhhhhhhhhh, here we are sharing a story in the teacher’s staff room!

On Friday we had lots of fun at our ‘Caldicotes Royal Garden Party’ to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II being the longest reigning monarch.

We certainly have been busy bees this week and we have been making our best better to be the best that we can be!

Keep checking nursery’s webpage and the schools Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to! Next week our letter of the week is ‘a’ and our number of the week is 2. Can you think of a word that begins with this phoneme? Can you find the number 2 in your environment?
