Week 5 in Nursery

posted 12 Oct 2015, 02:10 by Vicki Bowes
This week Nursery have been focusing on the following aspects of learning; speaking and listening and number.

At every opportunity in the day, we have been developing our counting skills and number recognition through songs and rhymes.

We have also had lots of fun learning about all things Harvest this week. We enjoyed being given the opportunity to taste a range of fruit and vegetables and learning about why we celebrate Harvest? This week’s story focus was a book called ‘Oliver’s Vegetables.’ From this story we were able to learn the names of different vegetables that grow under the ground. We even got to try some of the vegetables that Oliver tasted!

Here are the morning children tasting fruit and vegetables.

Here are the afternoon children tasting fruit and vegetables.

We learnt a new rhyme all about Harvest that we will sing at the church next week. Here’s how it goes…..Maybe you could sing along too! We hope to see you there at the church on Friday!

The farmer plants his seed

(Sang to the tune of; Twinkle, twinkle little star.)

The farmer plants his seed,
The farmer plants his seed,
Hey-ho, the dairy-o, the farmer plants his seed.

The rain begins to fall,
The rain begins to fall,
Hey-ho, the dairy-o, the rain begins to fall.

The sun begins to shine,
The sun begins to shine,
Hey-ho, the dairy-o, the sun begins to shine.

The food begins to grow,
The food begins to grow,
Hey-ho, the dairy-o, the food begins to grow.

We bring the food to share,
We bring the food to share,
Everybody bring something,
To show we really care.

In phonics we have been consolidating our knowledge of rhyme, learning to distinguish between different sounds and patterns of sound. We really enjoyed playing eye spy and tuning into initial letter sounds in words.

The weather hasn’t been too kind to us this week, but we really enjoyed extending our learning in our outdoor provision. Even if we did get a little bit wet!
There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes!!!!!!!

It has been a busy week this week and we certainly have been making our best better to be the best that we can be!

Keep checking nursery’s webpage and the schools Twitter page to find out what we have been getting up to! Next week our letter of the week is ‘n’ and our number of the week is 6. Can you think of a word that begins with this phoneme? Can you count up to the number 6? What number comes before number 6?
