Week ending 03.03.17 in Reception!

posted 8 Mar 2017, 06:04 by Vicki Bowes

This has been a busy week again in Reception class. We have been following the theme of pirates. In English we have listened to pirate stories and in maths we have worked on money. We have also celebrated World Book Day and Pancake Tuesday.

In English we read ‘Pirates love underpants’ by Claire Freedman and we wrote about pirates, what the look like and what they do and say.

In Maths we have been looking at money, we have been practising recognising different coins and notes. We have worked hard to understand the value of different coins.

Tuesday this week was Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day. After discussing the reason Christians celebrate Pancake Day and talking about how some Christians give things up for Lent, we made pancakes. We ate the pancakes with golden syrup and with chocolate spread. They were delicious!

Thursday this week was World Book Day. During the day we read lots of stories and we talked about the importance of reading a story at bedtime. We loved our new ‘Bedtime Story Bear’ which we are going to take it home each day like we do with Busy Bear. Aurora took bedtime bear home on Thursday and read her favourite story ‘The Gruffalo’ to the bear at bedtime. Lots of us dressed up in our pyjamas for the day.

As part of our World Book Day celebrations we wrote about which are our favourite stories and why.
