In Year 2 we have been learning about instructional writing. We enjoyed reading the story of 'Supertato' and used it as our inspiration for making evil pea soup!

As ever, we are keeping fit and healthy and have started our PE lessons this year with some circuit training.

In maths we have been learning all about multiplication and division. This week we took advantage of the lovely sunshine to practice what we had learned by working in the playground to make multiplication and division arrays using PE cones.

In year 2 we have been learning about St David and celebrating St David's Day. He is the patron saint of Wales and an important Christian. On St David's Day we enjoyed using the iPads to make books all about this important character, enjoyed making Welsh cakes which tasted great and even had a go at Welsh country dancing.

On World Book Day we enjoyed taking part in a treasure hunt in the school library looking for clues in books. We dressed up as characters from our favourite books and created our own book marks that we can use when we are reading at home.

This weeks we have been learning all about fractions by designing and making our very own fraction pizzas. We had to create pizzas with two different toppings, dividing our pizzas into halves. We had a great time making these delicious treats. We have also been learning about quarters and thirds.

In PE we have started to learn about the game of netball. We loved watching clips of fast action netball matched and know that we have lots of different types of pass to master. So far we have learnt how to use the chest pass and the bounce pass.

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2017. Year 2 would like to wish everyone a very happy 2017.

Year 2 have been busy recapping our learning from last half term in maths.

Now we are ready to move onto our next challenge.

We have also received a letter and gift from Busy Bear. He is still away and wanted to tell us about all the continents he has visited. We decided to do some research and find out about all his bear friends around the world.

He left one of his favourite books and we decided to rewrite the story, making it even better. He will love reading our stories when he returns.

We have also been exploring the app called Seesaw as a way to feedback and evaluations about our writing and reading. We will keep you posted!

Festive Fun in Year 2!

Busy Bear

Busy Bear has left us to go on his exciting adventure to Scotland. He left to go to Edinburgh Castle to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day. We all gave him a cuddle and off he went. We will see you in the new year.

A Surprise Visit

We were amazed to discover tiny footprints in the Key Stage 1 corridor and a message from Errol the Elf. He kindly offered to collect our letters and deliver them to Santa.

What tiny footprints! Could this be Errol? Yes indeed.

Our hub had been magically transformed into an Elf Workshop.

Our letters to Santa are complete and ready for collection.

More Festive Fun Moments

An unexpected surprise on party day in Year 2.

The best Christmas party ever!

We are so proud of our Year 2 Christmas narrators.

This was a very special moment that we will always remember.

Science Week, U.S.A. and Armistice Day!

What a fantastic surprise for Year 2! We have returned to Spooky Science Week. Firstly we read Room on the Broom and a few of us were wearing the appropriate costumes so we joined in with the story. Next we investigated how we could use magnets to help the witch fly magically across the night sky.

Next we headed to the USA to find out more about why it has been in the news so much lately. We wanted to know more about America so we used an atlas to answer some of our questions.

Of course, we watched the news to discover the result of the Presidential election too.

Finally, we joined everyone across the country to remember those that have sacrificed so much in wars and conflict. We all made a red poppy and a purple poppy which are now on the wall outside our classroom so we remember all year, not just today.

October Fun in Year 2!

Yet again we have been very busy in Year 2.

Firstly the children in Year 2 would like you to meet our Year 2 Academy Forum Representatives.

Here are our Year 2 Eco-Warriors too.

Our Class Assembly

We are all feeling incredible proud of our Year 2 class assembly success. The children prepared and wrote the assembly for their families to enjoy. They have also worked so hard on continually improving their performance.

In the picture above we are improving our speaking and listening skills. We need to speak clearly and be loud enough to be heard by the audience.

Here are the children ready to perform and just minutes from show time!

Here is one of the performance poems that we shared in our assembly. This poem was inspired by our trip to Saltburn beach and was a fun way to learn more about nouns and adjectives.

Here we are enjoying an unexpected treat!

All of the children have taken an information leaflet home so they can find their nearest Judo class if they want to improve their fitness.

Week 2 in year 2!

posted 4 Oct 2016, 03:52 by Vicki Bowes

We have had an incredible time in Year 2 so far. Please read the information below, generated by the children.

On Tuesday 16th September we celebrated Roald Dahl Day. We dressed up as characters from the books he had written. Jaycee-Leigh commented, “I liked the Oompa-Loompa costumes the best.” What an amazing day!

Taking Care of Alfie the Tortoise
On our first day back to school we found an old case next to a lamppost. Back in our classroom we discovered a letter in the case from Mr Hoppy and Mrs Silver. They asked us to look after Alfie the Tortoise because they were away on holiday.

We loved taking care of Alfie and wrote a report about how to keep a tortoise safe, happy and healthy. Our favourite part was giving Alfie a bath.

The BFG Visits
On one magical Monday morning we found glimmering glitter and minty sweets scattered all over the Key Stage 1 corridor. We thought the BFG had visited because he had left giant footprints and an enormous key behind. Also Alfie had disappeared. Later that week we received a letter from the BFG. He was very sorry about all the mess and said that he had returned Alfie to Mr Hoppy.

Willy Wonka interrupts Chocolate Kebab Making
This week have made chocolate kebabs in our Caldicotes Chocolate Factory. Then we had to leave our kebab designs in the hub for the Oompa-Loompas to collect.

We explored various designs to share with Willy Wonka.

We thoroughly enjoyed eating our chocolate kebabs.

Welcome to the new Year 2 page!

This introduction has been generated by the children in Year 2. They will continue to contribute to our class page throughout the year so please keep visiting regularly. Thank you.

We are Year 2. We are divided into four house teams. Look at the photographs of our fantastic teams below.

We enjoy learning and we are looking forward to the next year. We all want to be the best we can be.

Important Information

We need our PE kit in school every day so we are ready for PE on Mondays and Fridays.

We love PE in this class,” said Lilly.

We do Forest Schools every Tuesday, so it is our responsibility to bring some appropriate clothes, shoes or boots.

Kelsi commented, “Forest Schools is brilliant because we do so many fun activities.”

It is important to bring our reading book and homework diary to school each day. We must read at home every day and do our homework each week.

Finally Ella asked to add, “We love being in class 3 and we always will do.”
