T20 Blast - A fantastic night at Headingley on Friday 19th June

Mrs Steele, Miss Smith, Mr Smith, and Mrs Vaughan along with 25 of our deserving pupils, (selected because of their consistently outstanding behaviour, effort and achievement in the cricket afterschool club or because of their talent and interest in cricket) were joined by Mr Jackson and Mr Bowman and 6 children from Grangetown Primary School to attend the T20 Blast cricket match at Headingley in Leeds on Friday evening.

Although the sun did appear and the rain stayed away, there was a chill in the air despite it nearly being the official start of the summer!  The electric atmosphere in the ground kept us all warm and we were thoroughly entertained by the fast-paced action.

The Yorkshire Vikings went into bat first and we soon picked up what we had to as the runs increased - joining in with the hand moves when a 4 or a 6 was scored, not to mention the dancing although we didn't join in with the 'kiss-cam'!!

It was really exciting watching the 'Vikings' accumulate 209-4 from their 20 overs - Mr Smith helped us all to understand the elements of the game and we began to understand the tactics that the batters were adopting to score as many runs as possible.

After a short break, the Nottinghamshire 'Outlaws' came into bat and attempted to beat the 209 that the Vikings had reached.  However, the Vikings' bowlers were in fine form in addition to some excellent fielding which meant that the Outlaws lost two early wickets!

An excellent team performance by the Vikings meant that they restricted the Outlaws to 169 for 6 from their 20 overs, meaning the Vikings won by 4 wickets!

The evening concluded with a fabulous firework display then a long journey back to Middlesbrough after a fantastic night!
